Video: The Roots ft. John Legend "The Fire"

My favorite record in the album. Here's Rik Cordero vision about the short film:
“The Fire” is one of my favorite tracks off HIGO and really feels like something you’d hear in the theater. The line “you don’t say good luck, you say don’t give up” inspired me to create a period piece narrative that stays true to the lyrics while adding another layer to the interpretation.

Not how i would've interpreted the track visually, but hey what do I know.

The Roots "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Sandwiches" EP

In late night TV show lingo, sandwiches are cuts the band plays during commercials to entertain the crowd. The Roots have wrote and performed over a 1,000 joints and Questlove was kind enough to compile 22 of the best ones into an EP.

Enjoy!

Questlove Showcasing His DJ Skills in Detroit

Questlove was invited to the African Festival in Detroit to perform as a DJ last Sunday. It was fitting, since he was in the Motor City to rock the crowd with music from Detroit's own J.Dilla, Slum Village and Dwele. His very diverse set took us from NY to L.A via Chi-town.

However, it's a shame that the event promoters picked such a secluded spot for Quest' to spin on the 1's & 2's. It took me about 20 min to find his stage while all the masses where upstairs unaware of the legendary Roots' drummer presence.

Dwele was also seen chillin in the crowd 10 minutes to the end. I'm not sure if he was scheduled to perform or just showing love to Quest'.

Enjoy DJ Quest's School of Hip Hop samples.
