Asher Roth Finally Adresses the Twitter "Joke"
A few days ago Asher Roth made a tasteless joke on Twitter while getting ready to perform at Rutgers University. As you may remember this is the same school that was victim of Don Imus "Nappy headed hoes" comment. At the time I didn't know how to take it so I stepped back and watch Twitter and the blogosphere go bizzurck about it. The following hours the comment and apology was deleted from his account. A true apology and explanation was never released until today.
I actually wasn't offended by it because I know dude is no racist and definitely not a stand-up comedian. However what was more offensive was the long silence that ensued. The unapologetic rapper at the time made other questionable comments that surfaced about "black rappers" not giving back to Africa. I agree but it shouldn't be just "Black rappers" that chip into the cause. Anybody with a great position should be giving back and not just to Africa.
I guess now we can put this behind us, since there wasn't a media frenzy over it and just keep it moving. It died off pretty quick on Twitter anyways.
Here's the released statement:
As of late, statements I’ve made have been stirring up much controversy and speculation. It is in my best interest that I feel I should address these instances personally and specifically. Truth: I am 23 year old imperfect human being who’s world is drastically changing around him. Facebook is no longer for just me and my friends. Twitter is no longer solely for the watchful eye of my parents. A new responsibility and voice has been placed upon me and is being heard well beyond my immediate peers. I’ve been receiving a crash course on perspectives and a very real sensitivity that exists and is an essential part of our world. With that, I’d like to sincerely apologize for any words that have been misinterpreted and may have offended any man, woman or child.
The twitter situation was an immature attempt to poke fun at an infamously moronic joke. In doing so, I unconsciously stooped to the level of its originator, making it just as bad, if not worse. Pathetic. Lesson learned - nothing good can come from repeating hateful words, regardless of your intentions. Leaving no context in what was being said and being presented through text (no facial or vocal inflection) the sarcasm of the joke (or lack there of) was not properly perceived and left it purely in bad taste. I immediately apologized for my immaturity but the apologies and original post were deleted by my team in an effort to prevent more people from being offended. Unfortunately, the deletion of these statements led several people to believe that my apology was insincere, which is why I have made the decision to release this statement.
The latest quote on giving back was in response to a question about rappers and their money posed to me by the interviewer. With the question and entire vibe of the conversation not being present in the article, when my statement came out in print it appeared as if I was taking black rappers to task randomly. Not the case. Although I do feel strongly about giving back when we are in a position of power and prosperity, it is not my place to talk about what others should do with their lives. Lesson learned: talk about what you know. You can call them mistakes, I call them life lessons. It is my duty as a human being to choose my words carefully, for I am a kind soul who puts a lot of stock in the progess of humans. I am a work in progress, as we all are and I will take this opportunity to learn and grow. Its bigger than an apology, its an understanding.
Moving forward, I hope we can all take some perspective and guidance from the dialogue that has emerged from these situations. I know I already have and will continue to do so.
Onward and upward
With love,
Asher Roth

2009 Playoffs Highlights - Day 12
Josh Smith tried to embarass the Heat with a between-the-legs dunk but all he did was embarass himself. Very disrespectful move from him that should motivate D-wade and his squad for the next game in Miami.

Rick Ross Just Committed Career Suicide
He dared to involve Eminem in this nonsense beef by calling him "honky" like really this is the best you have for Em'. Officer Ricky is crying for some more attention after selling less than 200,000 copies in a week and going number 1 on Billboard. Did he forget how many soldiers Em' has under his belt. I know Em' won't entertain this he will let his people take care of it. So wait for a blitz of diss tracks coming from the Shady/Aftermath/G-Unit camp.
This dude is a pathological liar.

2009 Playoffs Highlights - Day 11
Boston is really struggling with the Bulls in the first round, this could go to 7. I had Boston in 6 in my fantasy league. Bye bye to San Antonio, they need restructuring (players are getting old) and they clearly missed Ginobili out there. The Houston/Portland series is going to 7 for sure.

2009 Playoffs Highlights - Day 10
Miami is going to be in trouble if Wade back spasms are getting serious, I have ATL to win the series anyway.
What that hell happened to New Orleans, they got spanked so bad last night. They lost by 50-some points, tie for the largest deficit loss by a team in 20-30 years. Embarrassing!
My Lakers are moving on the next round after eliminating the Jazz in 5 games. I'm a lil bit worry by the defensive let down at the end of every game. We build this large lead usually by 20 points and allow the opponent to come back within single digit. We got to seriously work on that.

Ciara "Fantasy Ride" Web Episode 1
Ciara working out and rehearsing for her shows.
I've been going hard at the gym too since my breakup w/ my girlfriend (she calls it a break, not me.) When it's over, it's over! there is no sense in going back. It didn't work the first time it's not going to the next time. It's been a great therapy, stress-relief and distraction to get over that shit (2 motherfucking years).
Now, more than ever, I'm focused into a healthier lifestyle by paying attention at what I'm eating actually. No more junk food, drinking only water, cutting down my meal portions. My goal is to actually lose 20 pounds I'm already half way there in one month. I can already feel the difference physically and it's a great confidence builder and energy booster.
It's going to be a hot summer, I can't wait to show off the tone body and abs on a beach in Florida.

2009 Playoffs Highlights - Day 8
I told you after game 3 that the Lakers had the next one. Kobe was on a mission from the start, scoring the first 11 points of his team, he finished with 24 pts at the half. He was very aggressive and when Utah showed some signs of resiliency, the Lakers bench came through to dig a deeper lead.
We intend to finish this series on Monday @ home.

In celebration of Earth Day I urge you to check out this full length documentary from the Disney Studios "Earth" in theaters today (see trailer above).
In other "Green" news a fellow from my home country Gabon was one of the six winners of the Goldman Environmental "Nobel" Prizes. Marc Ona Essangui is an activist who has fought the local government for a long time. He exposed unlawful agreements in a Chinese mining project that threatened a sensitive ecosystem in Gabon’s equatorial rain forests and has been arrested numerous times for it or for trying to leave the country in order to attend international conferences on the subject.
So congrats to him

Even Lil Wayne is Predicting My Lakers to be Champs
Words from Weezy:
Just so no one gets it twisted: the Lakers are winning the NBA Finals. Now that KG is out, the C's aren't gonna go anywhere, which is a shame. You always like to have the defending champs in there to fight like hell to hold on to their crown. Doc Rivers doesn't want to believe it. And as competitive as KG is, I can't imagine even being around him right now -- how frustrated he must be because all he wants to do is get out on that court. He's probably breaking stuff in his house, he's so mad.
Anyway, so now we're looking at a Lakers versus Cavaliers final, and that's going to be amazing. Kobe won't get the best of LeBron, but the Lakers will get the best of the Cavs. I'll be rooting for the Lakers, and LeBron already knows that. So it's not like I'm gonna show up in a Kobe jersey and make 'Bron Bron cry. He knows I've been a Laker fan my whole life so it's all good. That don't mean he likes it, but he ain't gonna cry when he sees me at the games screaming for Pau Gasol and Trevor Ariza.
But LeBron will be OK. He's gonna win the MVP this year. That will be his consolation prize. Phil Jackson and the Lakers will walk away with more rings, but LeBron will get his trophy.
Church!

Artist of the Week: Drake "So Far Gone" Mixtape
The buzz on this dude has been crazy for the past two weeks. I slept a lot on dude so this is me catching up. I just checked out his mixtape and I'm impressed. It's actually what Kanye was attempting to get with his '808' album. Drake raps and sings (no autotune) and he's a lyrical genius.

2009 Playoffs Highlights - Day 2
You know I gotta talk about my Lakers. We killed the Jazz yesterday and boy did Kobe put an exclamation point at the end of the game with that jam on top of Milsaap..."Take that, take that". And that reverse dunk from Ariza was unbelievable.
Philly stole one in Orlando with a last second shot from Iguodala redeeming himself after missing 2 free throws earlier. I missed the last two games of the day but Miami got killed in ATL same thing for New Orleans @ Denver.
Big nights for Josh Smith and Billups (Only Billups will stop in the middle of a fastbreak at the 3-point line, shoot and make it).

I swear the Pistons are going to get swept. I still believe Portland will win the series against Houston in 7 games. I also have Dallas winning theirs against San Antonio, probably in 7 too.
