Shakir Stewart Named Executive VP of Def Jam Records

It took L.A Reid a few months to fill the position left by Sean "Jay-Z" Carter back in January when his contract was up. Both parties couldn't agree on new terms, so they parted ways. Shakir Stewart is taking the position, he was Senior VP of A&R and his new responsibilities include signing new talent, overseeing producers and guiding the creative vision of the legendary label.
As an A&R and promoter he's worked with artists like Nas, Too short, Luke, Young Jeezy, Rick Ross, Destiny's Child, Ciara, OutKast, Usher and many others.
Island Def Jam went for a low profile effective executive with a lot of experience in the business. It should work.
