Geoffrey Fletcher was the first African American to win an Oscar as a writer for Best Adapted Screenplay.



Katheryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker") was the first female to win an Oscar for Best Director, Jeff Bridges won the Best Actor award, so did Sandra Bullock for Best Actress("The Blind Side"). Christoph Waltz had a great performance in Inglorious Basterds, well deserved award for Best Supporting Actor.
