They don't get as much love as our Mothers do, but their presence is as much important. Just like Obama said today when addressing a crowd at a Black church in Chicago, we black men need to step up and be more involved in the education of our kids. Encourage them in not settling for less, good grades isn't enough if you can have better grades, a good job is not enough if you can get a better one. Don't go awol or m.i.a and reject your responsibilities, act like men and not boys. As kids we need that love and affection from our Mothers but we also need discipline and tough love to counter balance it from our Fathers or we end up being too comfortable and taking control of our lives at a very young age (not supposed to happen). Don't take the risk of letting the streets or anybody else raise your own seed, you might not like the finish result and you won't have the right to complain at this time. So be that male figure that guide us through life, that voice that advises and educates us on life, be that role model, just be there.
Anybody can be a dad, but not everybody raises their kids as Fathers
Thanks Dad for everything, I'm the man that I am today because of you.
Happy Father's Day.
Here's the speech:
